OUR MISSION

Our goal is about thorough product processing and customer care – every single day. Processing is important to us, which means we accurately select the raw materials, implement suitable treatments, maintain the crops healthy, constantly update our technical and technological skills and painstakingly enforce laws and regulations. We care for our customers, which means we listen to them, understand their requirements, meet their requests in a fast and flexible way and fulfil their expectations by proposing fresh and genuine quality products, plus competitive prices.

Introducing our strengths, clear and concrete and constantly tested:
PROMPTNESS: our processing cycles are fast and efficient;
FRESHNESS: the salads and vegetables we produce reach the shelf in 24 hours;
RELIABILITY: the quality standards of our facilities and of our products are monitored and certified;
CHOICE: our product range meets the most diverse requirements.

This is the only approach possible for asking our customers to grant us what we deem essential: their trust.

OUR COMPANY

L’Insalata dell’Orto is the outcome of a passion plus an idea. The passion is about land, and it has backed vegetable farming in our family for generations. The idea came up in 1990, when we decided to expand our production to include greenhouse farming and start off fourth range product processing, transformation and packaging.
This first step naturally led to the creation of L’insalata dell’Orto Srl, established in 2000. Such company deserved an impeccable start up, which means it has been complying with regulations and laws since its very establishment. We also greatly care for its corporate image, both on the inside - interior decor and workspace arrangement – and on the outside - brand awareness, advertising and promotional material updating, plus matching, recognisable, transport vehicles. In addition, the bond with the area of origin has allowed us to gradually build up our clientele, starting from Veneto and covering the whole of Italy, as well as foreign countries, and to make our products suitable for large wholesalers, mass distribution, collective catering and catering.

L’Insalata dell’Orto now boasts outstanding quality achievements: 9001:2008 certification, IFS and BRC certification plus, in 2007, certification for first and fourth range packaging for ORGANIC FARMING PRODUCTS.

In addition, even though the farming approach has changed throughout the years - granting technological innovation a fair role - care and devotion are still on our agenda and make the key to our success - season after season.

OUR PRODUCTS

We offer our customers a vast selection of first and fourth range products through L’Insalata dell’Orto brand and subcontracting. We propose adult salad greens, baby salad greens and vegetables, to be eaten raw or cooked, in more than one-hundred combinations, in weight options to suit the requirements of all family types, from singles to large households. The ingredient variety is matched with a vast package selection: maxi or individual-portion bags, film trays, flow-pack trays, thermo-seal bowls, polypropylene or polystyrene boxes - which ensures each assortment is duly preserved.

RAW MATERIALS

We exclusively process quality raw materials – it is as simple as that. This is why our baby salad greens are mainly sourced from our own farms and we rely on the collaboration of trustworthy companies subject to strict integrated farming guidelines for our adult salad greens.

PLANTS AND PRODUCTION | NORTH ITALY

The main production plant, situated in Mira, province of Venice, covers approx. 25 hectars, which we farm according to integrated farming methods. Production is carried out in tunnels, multi-tunnels, as well as in the open field. The first options provide rocket, valerian, blond and red baby salad greens, baby chicory, baby spinach, basil, parsley; whereas the open file options supply Milan chicory, Chioggia endive, curly endive, prickly endive and spinach.

Following some enlargement and technological update actions, the plant now covers a total of approx. 4,000 sq m, broken up as follows:

Raw material units 700 sq m
Processing and packaging area 1,200 sq m
Finished product units and logistics area 1,700 sq m
Packaging warehouse 300 sq m
Staff including satellite activities over 160 members

Mira plant relies on the "value of the natural capital" thanks to a photovoltaic system - nominal power 380 kW - as the company has always pursued green economy solutions for cutting down the environmental impact.

The various work areas are separated by refrigerated walls, and all rooms are conditioned and monitored electronically. Packaging operations are handled by multiheads — that is tools able to perfectly determine the different weight options per each product/customer. Maximum hygiene is guaranteed, as human labour is not involved in this stage.

North Italy is also the home to another Farm, situated in the province of Bergamo, which provides support in summer and valerian in winter.

PLANTS AND PRODUCTION | SOUTH ITALY

To counterbalance Veneto's climate (too cold in winter), and to guarantee some of the crops, we have also set up three Farms in the Piana del Sele plane, in the province of Salerno: an area that has always been used for greenhouse farming, where temperature is mild even throughout winter.
On one of the Farms we carry out integrated farming, while the other two are devoted to organic methods. Therefore our customers are constantly supplied throughout the year with a selection of certified products.

ORGANIC PRODUCTION

Organic production exclusively allows the use of natural substances, that is those present in nature, thus it bans all chemical synthesis products (fertilisers, weed killers, insecticides). Applying organic farming methods means implementing a production model which avoids excessive natural resource exploitation and endures over time. It is a niche industry endowed with interesting prospects for development, especially as regards the North European markets.

INTEGRATED FARMING

Integrated farming represent a sustainable farming method that makes a good compromise between conventional and organic practices and is able to: optimise the use of resources and of technical means for producing a certain product quantity; provide healthy and safe food, concurrently protecting environmental resources; comply with the national and European guidelines and regulations.

The three Farms based in the province of Salerno boast outstanding technology.
Given that first range vegetable products, which are fresh and not processed, need a reliable cold chain able to preserve their quality, we can rely on:

PACKAGING WAREHOUSE
Covering a total of 1400 sq m including:
- 380 sq m packaging warehouse;
- two blast-chilling units (able to bring down the temperature of 100 kilos raw material from 40°C to 3°C in five hours) and raw material storage, surface 240 and 200 sq m;
- 150 sq m logistics platform.

ULTRAVIOLET WATER PURIFICATION SYSTEM
Water quality is at the base of quality end products. This is why the facilities are fitted with an ultraviolet water purification system. The system, show in the picture, is made up of a steel unit holding 12 UV ray lamps (built to last 9,000 hours each), and is designed to purify 200 cubic metres water per hour.

The whole vegetable and salad greens production cycle is then checked according to the HACPP procedure, which includes monitoring of the product and of the washing water through regular microbiological and chemical testing, conducted by external ACCREDIA-accredited laboratories.
